We’re working with Age UK Cornwall and their partners to develop a digital service to help people live well in later life. ‘The Cornwall Link’ is an online community ‘hub’ for people living in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Age UK’s vision is to provide online guided conversations, personalised support, links to day centres and social prescriptions. Carers, helpline staff, volunteers, healthcare professionals and patients can access information, services and community activities relevant to an individuals needs and location.
In the future the Made Open community skills / time exchange features will be integrated to help mobilise and incentivise a network of ‘self-help’ volunteers; many of whom can deliver guided assessments, social activities and practical day services.
Integration of our volunteering features into Cornwall Link will enable individuals to join volunteering groups and post volunteering opportunities – connecting supply and demand. Further development of the Volunteer Bank will help Age UK Cornwall and their partners to tap into employer sponsored volunteering schemes; helping businesses through their employees to supporting ageing communities and report on impact.
These are our dreams for the near future but as Walt Disney once said, “if you can dream it, you can do it.”
HOW WILL THE CORNWALL LINK WORK?
Visitors to the site can:
Search the community link directory for a range of support services and social activities.
Filter information by location, support needs, interests or health conditions.
Create and save a “favourites” list – like a social prescription, which can be printed out.
Read stories and learn from others in the community.
Access volunteering opportunities and enable community groups to post volunteering opportunities.
Submit activities, groups and support services that might be useful to your community.
