Robert is an experienced service designer and systems thinker with a background in customer experience design, strategy and digital product development. Having previously worked as a Senior Project Manager for a global digital communications agency, and then latterly as a Product Manager for Orange Telecoms and Digital Account Director for Zurich Financial Services, Robert set up Made Open in 2003 to combine his skills and with his passion to create solutions that tackle important social issues.
His work has spanned a range of complex social challenges ranging from deprivation in communities and dementia to mental health and modern slavery. He has spent the last few years leading the development of our community networking platform – a platform that enables individuals, groups and organisations to exchange information, services and resources. The Made Open platform can be customised to suit any community of purpose or place in any (English-speaking) region or country worldwide; and is already being utilised by local authorities and charitable trusts in England, Wales and Australia.
Robert believes that there’s no place for competition when it comes to supporting a community; a view that is almost the polar opposite of how the system in general (and commissioning cycles in particular) work. His vision is to establish a platform, a process and a network of people who disrupt this conventional view.
