Exchanging time and talents can stimulate positive connections for people in lots of different ways.
Our community exchange is a marketplace where time, not money, is the currency. Community members earn credits by helping others and spend credits on goods and services being offered by others. They can also donate their credits to other members.
Because our platform is a community network, our exchange isn’t simply a catalogue of offers / requests like many other timebanking platforms; but a two-way skills exchange. That’s why we call it an exchange: timebanking + social interaction.
Our community exchange can help members of the community to:
Post requests for help or make an offer to help others.
Submit a request on behalf of others.
Add a variety of tags to define who their offer is for.
Exchange their credits for community goods and services.
Donate their credits to others or a centrally managed community pot.
Build a record of their engagements (their “social CV”) in numbers and highlights.
Community builders can manage the community exchange in a number of ways. They can:
Create a marketplace of rewards and discounts to members.
Set up sub accounts.
Manage offers / requests on behalf of their client base.
Configure online safeguards to verify and protect members.
Manually transfer credits from member to member.
Download statistics at a platform or neighbourhood level.
Transfer donated credits to members who need them most.
Establish how many credits new members receive.
Divide the responsibility of moderating timebanks.
People changing their neighbourhoods
Our online timebank helps Torbay Community Development Trust build community resilience using neighbourhood timebanks – everything from offers of gardening, ironing or picking up groceries on behalf of other people. The Trust have evidenced the following from a base of 1,500 people:
Self-reported loneliness has reduced from 59% to 29.
Social interaction has increased by 10%.
Befriending has increased from 23% to 36%.
Problems with mobility have reduced from 70% to 54%.
GP visits have been halved.
Hospital admittance is down by 60%.
Extreme anxiety and depression is down from 20% to 8%.
Our platform supports this effort.
Connecting people to their community
We are the only platform that mobilises not just the assets of community groups and clubs (e.g. pilates classes, knitting clubs) but also the assets and resources of people living in communities (e.g. I will play scrabble with you, I will cook you a hot meal).
This is a compelling proposition that truly accesses the resources, skills and experiences available in a community; one that encourages community members to utilise what they already possess.
